Your BDSM Community, Close By.

The BDSM community is simply the kinky people in your part of the world: the regulars at a munch, a rope group that meets once a month, the switch across town. My BDSM Directory helps you find them by place, so you can talk first and meet when it feels right. Joining is free.

A quick word on what this site is and isn't. My BDSM Directory has no forum and doesn't list events, and it's fairer to say so up front. What it does well is the part most groups can't: showing who in your own area shares your interests, on profiles that say so plainly. Below is how the wider community works, and where the directory fits in.

Who's in it

What Is The BDSM Community?

Ask ten people what the BDSM community is and you'll hear ten answers, all pointing at the same thing: people who share the lifestyle and look out for each other. In a big city it might be several munches, a rope study group, a leather crowd and a busy online circle; in a small town it may be four friends and a group chat. What ties it together is a set of shared habits. Consent gets talked through before anything happens, limits are respected without argument, names stay private, and newcomers get a fair hearing. If the letters themselves are still new to you, start with what BDSM means.

Finding your people

BDSM Groups: Who Runs Them, How To Find One

Most BDSM groups are run by volunteers who wanted somewhere to meet and decided to organize it themselves. Some are general socials; others form around one interest, such as rope, leather, D/s, women-led play or kinky people under thirty-five. They rarely advertise in the open, so the trail usually goes like this: the organizer posts on a big kink social network or a community board, regulars pass it on, and newcomers find out by asking. Groups fold and restart, too, so once you turn up a name, check that it has met recently before you plan an evening around it. The wider kink community works the same way.

Your First BDSM Group: What To Expect

Walking into a BDSM group for the first time is mostly about nerves, and they usually fade within ten minutes. Expect a host who says hello, a few regulars who ask what brought you, and conversation that's friendlier and more ordinary than you'd guess: work, pets, a new flogger somebody just bought. Some groups ask newcomers to message the organizer first, or to come to a munch before anything more private. Treat that as a good sign rather than a hurdle. Listen more than you talk on the first night, and don't feel you owe anyone your legal name or a second visit.

Face to face

BDSM Meetup: What Actually Happens At A Munch

Most BDSM meetups are munches, and a munch is the gentlest way into the lifestyle there is. A group takes over a long table at a restaurant, a diner or the back room of a bar, everyone wears their everyday clothes, and nobody plays. People eat, talk and put faces to usernames. Some munches have a theme, like a newcomers' night or one for Dominant women and the people who serve them; others are a general social for anyone kinky. The point of any BDSM meetup is trust. You get to see how people behave in public before you decide whether you'd ever want to see them in private.

Going To A BDSM Meet Up On Your Own

Plenty of people go to their first BDSM meet up alone, and organizers expect it. If there's a way to message the host beforehand, do, so someone is watching out for a new face. Arrive near the start, while tables are still forming, rather than walking into a full room. Say you're new; it gets you a warm introduction instead of a quiz. Make sure a friend has the place and a time you'll text by, as you would before meeting anyone from the internet. Keep your drinks light and your surname to yourself if you'd rather, and head home whenever you like. No one minds.

Straight answer

Is There A BDSM Forum Here? Honestly, No.

If you came looking for a BDSM forum, with threads, categories and long arguments about rope fiber, that isn't what this site is, and we won't pretend otherwise. Forums still exist, mostly as sections of the big kink social networks, and they're handy for asking questions and spotting groups in your area. My BDSM Directory is closer to a front door: profiles sorted by place, private messages, plus members-only chat rooms for VIP members, where a quick question gets a quick answer. Free members can also post status updates and comment on other members' posts. For the chat side in more detail, read our page on BDSM chat.

Local BDSM Community: Start From Where You Live

A local BDSM community is the one you can actually reach on a weeknight, and that's what the directory is built around. Choose your country, narrow it to your state, county, province or region, and see who lives within a sensible drive. Profiles show the nearest town and never an address, so you can judge the distance without anyone learning your street. The daily match picks favor people nearby, and VIP members get a city filter and a distance filter on top. Members here are often the quickest route to a munch, too: ask someone who has lived in your area for years and you'll usually hear about the next one.

The unwritten rules

Community Manners Nobody Writes Down

  • Names stay privateWhatever you learn at a munch about who's who stays there. Outing someone, even by accident, is the quickest way to lose a group's trust.
  • Ask before touchingThat covers people and their gear. A collar or a toy bag is personal; admire it out loud and keep your hands to yourself.
  • No play at socialsMunches happen in public, among people who never agreed to watch. Save the scene for a private space and a planned evening.
  • Titles are given, not takenDon't call someone Sir, Master or Mistress unless they've invited it. That belongs to their own partner, not to a stranger at the next table.

Look after yourself

Staying Safe As You Meet People

Online, before you meet

  • Look for the badge. Verifying ID costs nothing and is up to each member; others prove it on camera to a moderator, no documents needed.
  • Stay in the site's own messages until trust is earned. If someone tries to move you onto an outside app, the site flags it.
  • Anyone who pushes past a no gets blocked. A blocked member loses every way of contacting you, and your profile drops out of their sight.
  • Anything nasty in a profile or message can be flagged to the moderators straight away. Every upload is checked, by AI first and by people too.
  • Never send money to anyone you only know from a screen, whatever the story.

Offline, when you do

  • Make the first meeting somewhere public, with no play planned.
  • Give a friend the address and a check-in time.
  • Agree limits and a safeword before any scene.
  • Leave if your gut says leave. No reason needed.

Community questions

Asked, And Answered Straight.

What is the BDSM community?

It's the people who share the lifestyle, online and in person: friends, couples, groups and the regulars at local munches. There's no official body and nothing to sign. Most people become part of it gradually, by meeting a few people, going to a social and coming back.

How do I find BDSM groups near me?

Search a big kink social network for your city or region, ask around at a munch, and message members here who live nearby. Groups change often, so check that one has met recently. Here, you can browse members by area and ask where people get together.

What happens at a BDSM meetup?

Usually it's a munch: people meet at a restaurant or bar in everyday clothes, eat, talk and get to know each other. There's no play and no dress code. It's how most people take their first step in, and the easiest place to ask questions.

Is there a BDSM forum on My BDSM Directory?

No, and we don't list events either. You get profiles to browse by place, messages and status updates, while VIP adds the chat rooms, plus group chats you set up yourself.

Do I need experience to join the BDSM community?

Not at all. Every regular was new once, and most groups welcome beginners who say so honestly. Read a little about consent and safewords, go to a munch, and take your time before anything private.

Is My BDSM Directory free to join?

Yes. On the free plan you build your whole profile, browse, receive match picks daily and send a set number of messages per day; answering a VIP member who contacts you first is included. Upgrading to VIP removes that cap and opens advanced search filters, the chat rooms and private group chats.
